Stamped Postal Cards, Pay Tribute to America's Pacific Lighthouses

The lights of five historic lighthouses will beam among the nation's 37,000 Post Offices when the 41-cent Pacific Lighthouses commemorative stamps and 26-cent stamped postal cards are issued nationwide. The stamps and cards depict Diamond Head Light (Hawaii), Five Finger Islands Light (Alaska), Grays Harbor Light (Washington), Umpqua River Light (Oregon) and St. George Reef Light (California).

The first-day-of-issue ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. PT, at the Grays Harbor Light, owned and operated by the Westport Maritime Museum. Other events are being held in Honolulu, Hawaii, Juneau, Alaska and Crescent City, Calif., that day. Reedsport, Ore. will celebrate the stamps during the town's Ocean Festival, July 20 and 21 and offer a special postmark.

Each stamp features an original acrylic painting by Howard Koslow, based on recent photographs of the lighthouses.
