Lennon’s ‘last’ piano, stamps up for sale

A New York recording studio piano believed to have been played by John Lennon just hours before he was shot dead in 1980 is being sold for $375,000, the dealer handling the sale said.

The piano belonged to New Yorks Record Plant Studios and Lennon would use it to compose new material and record songs, according to the seller, Moments In Time, a memorabilia specialist located just north of New York City. According to the seller, Lennon fell in love with the upright grand pianos nostalgic sound and had it moved to whichever studio he was using. He last played it on December 8, 1980 the day he was gunned down in New York. The piano comes with a document signed by former Record Plant sound engineer Jack Douglas, who says the piano was also played by Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend from The Who and Don McLean during sessions for the hit song American Pie.

LENNON'S STAMPS ON DISPLAY

JOHN LENNON's childhood stamp collection will be exhibited for the first time in Europe today (01Jun07). DWYM: Stamps

With stamp prices recently jumping to forty-one cents, everybody is running out to buy books of first-class stamps. But you may not know that where you buy them could make a big difference in how much you pay.

Dorothy Roth, like many of us, needed new forty-one cents stamps.

"And I thought well I'll stop at UPS; they sell stamps. I've been their once before," Roth explained.

She decided to buy a roll at a nearby UPS store.

"I didn't think anything of it when she said forty-five dollars," said Roth.

When she returned home, Roth discovered the store didn't sell her the new stamps, but rather the old thirty-nine cents stamps. She said she could live with that, except she then realized the store had charged her an additional six dollars on the roll of stamps! Which was an additional six cents per stamp.
